How to add a watermark to a PDF
- 01
Choose your PDF
Drag and drop the file you want to watermark. Files up to 50MB are supported, and nothing is uploaded - it all happens on your device.
- 02
Design the watermark
Type your text or pick a PNG/JPG logo, then set the size, color, opacity, and angle. Place it once in the center or tile it across the page, on all pages or a page range.
- 03
Download the watermarked PDF
The preview shows exactly what you get. Click download and the watermarked copy is saved - your original file is not changed.
Text or image watermarks, your way
Mark drafts as DRAFT, contracts as CONFIDENTIAL, or brand a handout with your logo. Text watermarks can be any size and color; image watermarks accept PNG (with transparency) and JPG.
Rotate the mark diagonally at 45°, keep it horizontal, or turn it sideways. A single centered mark is subtle; tiling repeats it across the whole page so it can't simply be cropped out.
Correct on every page, even rotated ones
Scanned and exported PDFs often mix portrait and landscape pages, rotated pages, and pages with unusual crop boxes. The watermark is placed against the page as you see it, so it stays centered and at the angle you chose on every page.
Your document content is untouched: the watermark is drawn on top as a separate layer of page content. Text stays selectable and vector graphics stay sharp.
Free and private
Everything runs in your browser. The PDF and your logo are never uploaded, stored, or seen by a server. No account, no limits on the number of files, and no watermark of ours on your document.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a watermark to a PDF for free?
Drop your PDF into the tool above, type the watermark text or choose an image, adjust opacity and angle while watching the live preview, and click download. It's free and needs no sign-up.
Can I use my logo as a watermark?
Yes. Switch to Image and choose a PNG or JPG. PNG transparency is kept, and you can scale the logo and set its opacity like a text watermark.
Can I watermark only some pages?
Yes. Choose Page range and enter pages like 1-3, 5 or 8-. Only those pages get the watermark.
Which characters can a text watermark use?
Text watermarks use a standard PDF font that covers Latin letters, including accents and German umlauts. Other scripts such as Cyrillic, Chinese, or emoji aren't supported yet - the tool tells you which characters to remove. As a workaround, use an image of the text.
Can the watermark be removed later?
The watermark is written into the page content, so casual readers can't switch it off. Keep your original file if you need a clean copy. A tiled watermark is much harder to crop or cover than a single one.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The whole process runs in your browser. The file never leaves your device.
